This Church was built in the middle of the 18th century (1749-1764). In architectural form the Church is reminiscent of several West European religious monuments. Kornyakt’s tower is one of the best Renaissance monuments of Europe. The tower near the Uspens’ka (Uspenska) Church was built in 1580 by architect Peter of Barbone for Greek merchant, Constantine Kornyakt and hence was named after him - Kornyakt’s Tower. (more…)

This is a wonderful example of Renaissance architecture with some Ukrainian influence thrown in. The complex is the focal point of the Orthodox Church in L’viv. It has been build under patronage and with financial assistance of Constantine Kornyakt.

The clock on the complex of ex-monastery of the Bernardine Order next to St.Andrew Church belfry shows the time ahead for 5 minutes of other clocks in the Lviv. When Lviv was in encirclement of the Bohdan Khmelnutskij army, the monk from the belfry of the Bernardine monastery saw the Kmelnitskij’s kozaks sooner for 5 minutes than a soldier from Town Hall Tower. After that incident the special privilege had been granted to the Bernardine monastery – the clock on their belfry shows the time ahead for 5 minutes of other clocks in the Lviv. The Cathedral is impressive for its beauty and grandeur. It was laid down in 1360. Its first architect was Peter Stetecher. The Cathedral took over one hundred years to build and was finished in 1481. (more…)

The first Town hall was built in the late 1350s-early 1360s. It was a wooden construction with a tall tower and a gallery, destroyed by fire in 1381. In the early 17th century a new Town Hall was constructed. But this building did not survive either for in 1826 the tower fell down. (more…)
