The Ethnography And Folk Craft MuseumThe Ethnography and Folk Crafts Museum at the Institute of Ethnology at the National Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was founded in 951 following the merge of two large Lviv museum centers City Industrial Museum, founded in 1874, and T. Shevchenko Scholarly Society Museum (1895).

The museum funds number over 83 thousand material and spiritual culture monuments of the Ukrainian people. The museum collection of clocks is considered to be the richest and the most valuable in Ukraine. The collection of Easter eggs, the oldest of which is dated 1874, consists of about 13 thousand items. Collection of posters was gathered within 18901930ies and represents pieces of poster art of this period from many countries. Original and authentic character is typical of the museum collections of artistic items of wood, designer metal, folk ceramics, jewelry, fabrics, toys etc. Ukrainian folk clothes collection preserves the key styles of traditional XIX XX c. clothes from various historical ethnographic regions of Ukraine, along with hats, footwear, krayky-belts, adornments of genuine coral, glass beads, and metal.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m., days off Monday, Tuesday. You can buy scientific and popular scientific literature in the issues of history of the Ukrainian art, folk culture and artistic crafts, ethnology and folklore study, ethnic linguistics, and ethnic political science. You will be offered a wide variety of folk artists, professionals, authoring pieces of fine and applied arts, represented by Ravlyk art gallery.

The Furniture and Porcelain Department

Former Lyubomyrski palace will offer you a unique furniture collection representing basic style directions typical of decorative and applied art evolution in Europe from XVI century till the turn of XX century, along with the collection of porcelain and faience. The museum collection counts 17 fund sets from over 18 thousand exhibits.
